Golden Deed
During our daily morning assembly prayers in school, we learnt new ways to connect with the Almighty everyday. We used to sing a hymn called "Each day i will do a Golden Deed..", of course, during those naive days of our lives, we never took those thoughts seriously. The days used to be so busy and schedules used to be jam packed. There used to be so much to be accomplished in a day and we used to do them for sure. We had several deeds in a day to finish, some good , some tough but none bad or cruel. We never bullied anybody, we did our homework and were on time every morning for the prayers. We were organized and we were happy. We slept as soon as we crashed into bed and woke up ever excited to go to school. I often wonder, that were we actually good souls then....and the answer is yes, we were.
If we compare our present selves to our former selves, what do we see? I can tell you what i see; i see a grown up person who used to be a good person. We were pure and happy when we were children. Why can we not be the same today as well? We have grown up only to become complicated and intertwined. Every day is a struggle to outshine the rest. Yes we have responsibilities, but why do they make us cruel and highly competitive. It won't hurt to be pure and cheerful again.
Back then we were credulous and candid, what we lacked was a matured brain. Now, when we have a matured brain, we lack a child's simplicity. Its never too late to start and become what we used to be once upon a time. All that we have to do is recall what we learnt in school. The age old good habits of helping others, being kind and gentle to all living beings, being patient and understanding towards our friends and doing one Golden Deed everyday.
You can start by placing a small container of water in your window or garden, for birds to come by and splash around or take a sip. Now that's a golden deed.
When was the last time you fed a hungry animal or a hungry kid or helped a friend in dire destitute? Do you feel proud of your self when you ponder upon the events if the day before you go to bed at night?
As for me, my Golden Deed has been this post, so that you can go out and improve your Karma.
How many Golden deeds do you have?
