And it was all........YELLOW....!!
According to wikipedia.org- “Yellow journalism is a type of journalism that downplays legitimate news in favor of eye-catching headlines that sell more newspapers. It may feature exaggerations of news events, scandal-mongering, sensationalism, or unprofessional practices by news media organizations or journalists.” Yellow journalism is sadly the one stream of media, which is giving competition to daily soaps..!!
There is one specific channel that should be given a Gunniess Book entry for showing close to 20 breaking news in a day!! They can even create news when there isn’t anything interesting actually happening. My inspiration for this post comes from the interview of Mr.Shashi Tharoor Minister of State for external affairs. He was on the channel on a very popular and old chat show on last sunday’s evening. The host too is a very renowned journalism personality. But with all due respect, all the allegations and reasons put forward Mr. Tharoor were totally unsubstantiated.
It was easily visible that the guest’s words were being uselessly tampered with and were manipulated with as well. I am not prejudiced towards Mr. Tharoor, but yes…. i am an admirer of the man, since the time he missed the top spot at the UN by a mere whisker. That in itself shows the caliber and the level of competence of the individual. Instead of taking the discussion to a level where he should have been asked to share as to what is the common mind frame of countries about India and about various foreign polices, the discussion vaguely went around his Twitter controversies and his good looks. He must have regretted coming to that show.
Sadly the horrendously irritating ordeal going on with Pakistan after the 26/11 and the unnecessary Chinese interference more like a game of Chinese checkers…..was discussed for the sake of it. On an honest opinion even our beloved minister was not able to clarify it convincingly.
Unfortunately, the Indian population is still regarded as an obsolete and disinterested audience by some forms of media. They know that we are a country with the youngest population, and we require good content to broaden our minds; but they fail to realize it. Media and journalism can be huge motivators in shaping an entire generation and youths’ mentality. But why blame them fully, when these news channels are doing so well, its because some of us really want to see such crap.
Freedom of speech is not only for the media, it is for each and every Indian, so practice it and lets take our voices forward. Stick to news, channels and papers that are into the business because they believe in transparency, honesty , integrity and above all respect.
News flashes like…”Bipasha basu getting 1.8 crores for new year’s eve performance” or “China, japan ka baap kaun hai…?” would NEVER help or offer a solution on the far end to the inflation hit Indian economy. Have you ever noticed or seen on these YELLOW channels a series of shows or documentaries on subjects like “How to create jobs for the recession hit students on 2008-2009?” or “How to start environmental friendly practices at home…?” blah blah…….blah….!! Guess it is disinteresting for them as well to do a research on such topics..
Lastly, but definitely not least likely……..A request……, please do not encourage such sordid pieces of scandalous details. If you have a DTH service at home, kindly remove such stuff from your favorite channels list. Your bit will encourage others’. And in bits and pieces, the yellowness shall again become white sheen.
Cheers..!!
